Eorzea Cafe

Final Fantasy XIV has several themed cafés in Japan. The first opening occurred in 2014 and there are two permanent locations, one in Akihabara and one in Osaka. There are also some limited pop-up events in other cities such as Kyoto, Nagoya, Sapporo, and Yokohama. The cafés are designed to immerse yourself into the game. The decor is designed to resemble certain big cities and the menu items are inspired by notable characters.

Throughout the years, there have been several menu items that are inspired by Haurchefant. I tried to search as far back as I could and was able to locate four items themed around Haurchefant! The cafés retire/rotate menu items out in order to focus on the current expansion, but occasionally bring back old menu items. I was not as successful as I wanted in locating images on the Internet Archive, so I relied on articles and blog posts. All listed on the Credits and Sources!

Haurchefant's Hot Pot of Goodness
	Type Soup Contains sausages, chicken, potatoes, carrots, broccoli Also known as "Soup of Haurchefant."* This was a winning entry when they held a cafe menu contest. The artist Kuroinu was inspired by the cold weather of Coerthas and thought about what kind of food would warm you up. The official listing describes this as a shared hotpot amongst adventurers! * As a caveat, I could not confirm if the other meat was specifically chicken or not.

	Type Cocktail drink (★☆☆) Contains black pine liqueur, mojito syrup, pear syrup, blue curacao syrup, and water The menu uses a 3 stars scale to show the amount of alcohol in a drink. This cocktail is very mild at 1 out of 3 stars. This is a Haurchefant inspired drink with the blues and a silver sword embellishment. It was difficult to find any clear official photos of the cocktail. I located a 2016 Twitter post on the old Eorzea Café account that unfortunately shared a low-quality photo of the drink menu. However, I did find an unofficial account sharing a clearer close-up photo of this drink on the menu, so I was able to obtain the ingredients from that.

Contains black pine liqueur, mojito syrup, pear syrup, blue curacao syrup, and water

The menu uses a 3 stars scale to show the amount of alcohol in a drink. This cocktail is very mild at 1 out of 3 stars. This is a Haurchefant inspired drink with the blues and a silver sword embellishment.

It was difficult to find any clear official photos of the cocktail. I located a 2016 Twitter post on the old Eorzea Café account that unfortunately shared a low-quality photo of the drink menu. However, I did find an unofficial account sharing a clearer close-up photo of this drink on the menu, so I was able to obtain the ingredients from that.

Haurchefant's Warm Ginger Tea
	Type Non-alcoholic drink Contains plain tea, honey, ginger syrup and ginger slices Inspired by the drink Haurchefant makes for you, Alphinaud, and Tataru at the end of A Realm Reborn to lift up your spirits! This drink can be served cold as well. At the bottom of the mug are ginger slices cut in heart shapes! It was never confirmed what drink Haurchefant made for you exactly in the game. Most of fandom has accepted it was hot chocolate, though the hot chocolate recipe in the official cookbook does not relate it to Haurchefant but instead to an implied Estinien. A "silver-haired Elezen with a long spear" is not entirely unique to Estinien though, so interpret that with how you will. Regardless, whether you prefer warm ginger tea or hot chocolate, both are delicious drinks that will surely keep you warm in the cold.

	Type Dessert Contains chocolate fondant, vanilla ice cream, waffle cone, raspberries, and blue berries This was also a winning entry from another cafe menu contest, this time by Apacho, who is a Haurchefant fan! The warm runny filling in the chocolate fondant balances the cold vanilla icecream and makes for a sweet and delicious dessert. The artist Apacho intended for the reds to match the Fortemps red and the vanilla ice cream to represent the snow fallen on Coerthas. The sword in the illustration looks intended to be a biscuit-type treat with the hilt covered in chocolate. I wish they stuck with that concept! It adds so much to the overall design compare to just another generic silver sword. It was also difficult to find any clear official photos of this dessert on the menu. I was able to locate a photo shared on a lodestone character blog post.

Back in 2016...

I was visiting Japan and in a funny coincidence, I stepped into the building where the Akihabara café is. I was casually shopping nearby and decided to check the places inside. I knew nothing about Final Fantasy XIV at the time and only captured this because "Hey, it's Final Fantasy!" Little did I know how much the game and its characters would mean to me!
